MER 18: “GDPR: Learn the ABCs of How Your Organization Can Improve its Information Governance to Facilitate GDPR Compliance.”
May 8, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Tuesday, May 8, 2018
Doculabs will be represented at the 2018 National Conference on Managing Electronic Records (MER) in Chicago (May 7 through May 9) by two principal consultants from its Information Security practice: Jim Polka and Matt McClelland. Their topic is “GDPR: Learn the ABCs of How Your Organization Can Improve its Information Governance to Facilitate GDPR Compliance.“
GDPR, the European Union’s Global Data Protection Regulation, is about to go into full effect, but the effort and resources needed to comply with the regulation don’t just stop. It’s just as important for organizations to continue managing their compliance, privacy, and information security in light of GDPR (and other similar regulations). In their session, Jim and Matt will discuss what organizations need to do to ensure they continue to comply with the regulation, as well as how good Information Governance can help to ease compliance with GDPR and other data privacy regulations.
One important step organizations can take to facilitate compliance with GDPR and similar regulations is to reduce the volume of unnecessary data in their repositories. Disposition of redundant, obsolete, and/or trivial (ROT) data not only helps better protect sensitive data, but also makes it easier to comply with various GDPR provisions, including breach notification, right to erasure, right of access, and data portability. Jim and Matt will provide an overview of each of these requirements and how repository clean-up makes it easier for organizations to comply.
