James K. Watson, Jr., founded Doculabs on three principles: objective recommendations, analysis grounded by benchmark data, with a specialization in content-based applications. Under James’s leadership, Doculabs has built an established reputation for expertise in content management and enterprise social collaboration, fulfilling a critical need in the marketplace: the need for an objective perspective in developing strategies to bring enterprise content under control and improve collaboration capabilities at the enterprise level.James serves as Executive Sponsor or Lead Consultant on numerous Doculabs consulting engagements, working with many clients in the insurance and financial services industries. He applies his experience, analysis, and in-depth market knowledge to address the technologies to support customer communications, compliance, e-discovery, and workplace collaboration initiatives, as well as the use of social technologies for account management and customer support.
Over the years, James has refined and enhanced the company’s service offerings. He created the industry’s only peer-group benchmarking service, which allows organizations to examine the metrics associated with deploying and managing content management systems on an enterprise level. He worked with Doculabs principals to develop services in the use of content management technologies to support compliance and e-discovery processes. James helped create Doculabs’ services in the visual ROI calculator, with deliverables that use client-specific data to enable the client to calculate the return on investment for a proposed technology initiative. Most recently, James directed the development of Doculabs’ visual prototype, which provides “before-and-after” scenarios to demonstrate the application of social collaboration technologies in key business processes.
James has served as a board member of the Electronic Document Systems Foundation (EDSF) and the Association of Information and Image Management (AIIM), and was the chair of the Emerging Technology Advisory Group (EMTAG). In 2000, Crain’s Chicago Business recognized James as one of its annual “40 Under 40,” highlighting his achievements in the Midwestern business community.
Prior to forming Doculabs in 1993, James held positions within the printing systems group at Xerox Corporation and the mainframe division of NCR Corporation.
